I’ve always had a passion for arranging music, but I put it on the back burner for many, many years.
Five days ago my daughter wanted to be able to play a song she loves from her favourite game: Waltzing in the Rain. we couldn’t readily find a good piano arrangement, so I wrote one for her that afternoon. Fortunately it’s a really beautiful song as it has been stuck in my head ever since. She’s been playing the piano arrangement daily, which is fabulous to hear.
That prompted me to start dusting off my other arrangements, starting with one that I did digitise 5 years ago as I play it on the theatre organ every now and again. I wrote it when I was 10 years old! I performed it in the 1987 Yamaha Electone Festival and I was selected the Overall Junior Winner for the local heat and went on to my first State Final. It’s about an intermediate level, so I submitted it to Sheet Music Press, and it’s now been published.
A little more work and I had a piano arrangement as well, which has today also been accepted for publication. Both arrangements of “The Holy City” are now available for sale.
I’m not yet able to publish my arrangement of Waltzing in the Rain as Sheet Music Press doesn’t have copyright permissions, but if that changes then I will submit it as well.
