The resources on this page are useful ear training preparation for aural components of practical exams and auditions for specialist music programs.

Practise Aural Tests

Some free aural tests are available on musictheory.net:

• Keyboard Ear Training: play the interval heard on the keyboard
• Note Ear Training: select the note name of the second note in a given interval
• Interval Ear Training: name the interval by number and quality
  • Intervals in the major scale
  • Major & minor intervals
• Chord Ear Training: name the chord
  • Major & Minor triads
  • Major, Minor, Diminished & Augmented triads
  • Dominant 7th, Major 7th, Minor 7th
  • Triads & 7ths

A useful app for practising AMEB aural tests is Aural Book by Playnote (they also offer versions for other exam bodies).. These feature the exact tests used for each grade; the app listens to your response and gives feedback about your accuracy. Each level has a limited number of free tests.
