On Sunday 21st January 2024, I attended a half-day “Spotlight on Pedagogy” workshop provided by the Australian Guild of Music & Speech (AGMS) here in Perth.
Topics included music for teens, incorporating technology into composition during lessons, and various new syllabus options available through the AGMS.
Of particular interest to me was their new range of “Odyssey” books, which feature compositions by a number of living Australian composers, including our own Jo Kotchie here in Perth. Jo played through a variety of her pieces, and discussed how they came about, the pedagogy behind them, as well as tips for teaching them.
