I love Christmas music! As an organist, I found the selections lacking. So, over 2 decades ago, I started handwriting Christmas arrangements. Despite Christmas carols and songs intending to be sung, I’ve found that the majority of arrangements out there are way too high for most people to sing!
So, I started a personal passion project to arrange every Christmas song I could find! I had completed over 30 when life got in the way, but with having more time to work on digitising arrangements in recent months, I have finally turned my attention to digitizing and publishing my Christmas arrangements.
The first Christmas arrangement that I’ve published is Away in a Manger. This is actually a many-in-one as there are a very large number of tunes used for this particular carol! I’ve completed arrangements for the 3 most popular tunes, and published lead sheets, and 3 different piano arrangements, from 5 finger pieces for beginners and other easy versions at various levels of difficulty. A dedicated organ arrangement will follow, though the lead sheet / fake book arrangement works well for organ too.
Since I’ve ended up writing several different arrangements for each song as I’m digitising them, I’m aiming to publish an average of one a week. Perhaps by Christmas 2026 I’ll have all my existing arrangements published, and will be resume working my way to working through my remaining to-do list of Christmas songs!
